What to Know About Drug Test and CBD, Delta 8, and Delta 9

Not too many employers require drug tests in America, but it all depends on the industry. 

It is not uncommon for employers to require at least a pre-employment drug test to screen employees, and then only do infrequent or no drug testing once the job has started. 

However, some workers can expect regular drug tests. 

For example, workers in healthcare and hospitals, transportation, and logistics were found to be the most likely to be drug tested. 

CBD and Drug Tests

It is unusual for CBD to be tested for on a drug test, as that is not something that employers typically test for, or are interested in testing for. 

Something our customers frequently ask us is whether our products will show up on a drug test, which we will answer below.

Delta 8, Delta 9, and Drug Tests

Here is where things can get tricky. 

When most employers say they test for marijuana, the test itself is meant to detect THC, which is the main psychoactive compound in marijuana. 

Incidentally, THC is also included in Delta 8 and Delta 9, which can mean you may “fail” your drug test despite not having taken what your employer is testing for—i.e., marijuana. 

If you are committed to using Delta 8 or Delta 9 products, whether it is for its health benefits (such as acting as a sleep aid or appetite stimulant) or just the recreational aspects, then you may want to notify your employer ahead of time that you use Delta 8 products, and that they are perfectly legal for you to use.  

The Bottom Line

Depending on your employer, you may be able to continue taking Delta 8 and Delta 9 products despite your drug tests results. 

For the majority of people, however, this could be a non-issue, since less and less employers are drug testing, with recent estimates showing that less than 2% of American employers bother drug testing.
